After kicking off the 2015 Evergreen Premier League season in convincing fashion in Wenatchee last weekend, the Spokane Shadow are returning to Spokane Falls CC Stadium Saturday night to continue the defense of their league championship. Despite a hard-fought effort from the hosts, the Spokane Shadow were unable to find the back of the net on a rainy evening at Spokane Falls CC Stadium, dropping a 2-0 contest to the Vancouver Victory, who used a goal in each half to move back atop the Evergreen Premier League table.

The match is part of SYSA Night in which kids, many of whom are playing in the annual Wendle Tournament this weekend at Andrew Rypien Field, that are wearing their Spokane Youth Sports Association jersey get in free.

With a 4-1 victory Saturday evening at Spokane Falls CC, the Shadow moved to 5-1-2 on the season and are now 4-0-1 in their last five. Four different players scored on the night for the hosts, including Karl Muelheims, who netted for the third consecutive game.

Despite leaving town, there was no escaping the extreme temperatures over the weekend as they permeated the entire state and slate of Evergreen Premier League matches. The Shadow, though, battled through the conditions to pick up a pair of victories, 2-0 in Vancouver Saturday and 2-1 in Yakima Sunday, that gave defending champion Spokane control in the chase for the 2015 league championship.

Title chase continues for Spokane as they look to complete sweep of central Washington foes

The reigning Evergreen Premier League champion Spokane Shadow plays host to Wenatchee FC Saturday evening at Spokane Falls CC Stadium at 7:00 pm. With a season-opening victory at Wenatchee and a pair of wins against Yakima United, the Shadow are in position to make it a complete full season sweep of their opposition from this side of the state. The Shadow came from behind in Wenatchee in the first meeting to grab a 3-2 halftime lead before rolling off five unanswered in a stunning 8-2 win over the Capitals, who played Yakima to a 1-0 win and 3-3 draw in the two meetings between the central Washington rivals. Spokane swept Yakima 2-0 and 2-1.

The defending Evergreen Premier League champion Spokane Shadow (8-1-2) embark on a two-game road trip this weekend that will play a large factor in the team’s bid to repeat as league champions. Needing five points in its final three games to accomplish the feat, the Shadow visit the Seattle Stars in Everett (Goddard Stadium, Mariner HS) Saturday afternoon and then face Bellingham United (Civic Stadium) 24 hours later. The 2015 collegiate season was a highly successful one in the region and quite a few Spokane SC Shadow alumni played a part in it. Five former Shadow youth and First Team players received top awards in their respective leagues for outstanding seasons and six were honored as regional All-Americans.
