As the holidays approach, eight Spokane Sounders teams are celebrating top-two finishes in the RCL, including championships for the Boys 98-A, 98-B, 03-B and 04-A teams in their respective leagues. Here's a round-up of the second month of RCL action from November 5 to December 11, covering the completion of the Fall campaigns, highlighted by the U13 Division 1 championship for the 04-A Boys and the kick off of a handful of Winter seasons for the high school girls.
Sounders B98-A / Sounders B98-B
It was a fantastic final season for the two sides in the U19 Division. The A squad won the Division 2 flight while the B's were champions of Division 3 as they both were nearly flawless with a combined record of 22-3-1. The 98-A's 6-0-1 over the last six weeks of the season, allowing just four goals while the 98-B's finished with a perfect run of seven wins after dropping their first game of the month, allowing just four goals as well during the win streak.
The Sounders squad finished second in the U17 Division 2 league, going 8-5-1 on the campaign. They were 3-2-0 over the final six weeks of the season, coming up three points shy of champion Crossfire Premier, who they beat in October.
Sounders B01-A / Sounders B01-B
In the U16 Division 2 league, the A squad had three one-goal contests over their final four games, but were unable to snare any points as they finished second from bottom. The B squad, meanwhile, continued its Division 3 turnaround that started midseason after six consecutive losses. They addd to their two October wins with a 2-1-2 stretch over the final six weeks, allowing just seven goals in the five games as they continued to climb out of the cellar to finish third from bottom.
Sounders B02-A / Sounders B02-B
It was a battle of perfection for the B squad in Division 4 as they went into their final game of the year with an 11-0-1 record, but were going up against a perfect STU Chelsea side. They dominated the day before at WPFC on the road but came up short in a 2-0 loss - their first of the season - in the showdown for first, settling for second. For the A squad, November started off a bit tough with a pair of shutout losses back-to-back, but they rebounded in their Division 1 campaign with a 2-2-1 mark over the final five games to finish third from bottom.
Sounders B03-A / Sounders B03-B
The nearly perfect B squad ran off another five wins in November while allowing just one goal to finish 13-0-1 for the season. They rolled to the U14 Division 5 championship with a five point margin, allowing just five goals in 14 games and scoring 21 more than second place STU Chelsea. The A squad were unable to pick up a win in their final three games of the campaign in November, but held on to finish third from bottom based on tiebreakers.
Sounders B04-A / Sounders B04-B
After dropping their first game of the season at the end of October, the A squad were nearly perfect over the final six weeks with a 4-0-1 mark and just one goal allowed to finish 11-1-2 and Division 1 RCL champions, edging out NorthWest United, who they tied 1-1 and beat 2-0, by two points. In Division 4, a 2-1 home win against Whatcom, who finished tied for third, in the first game of November for the B squad proved huge at the end of the season as they finished third from bottom by two points.
Sounders G03-A / Sounders G03-B
The A squad finished second in U14 Division 3 with a fantastic finish to the season that left them just three point shy of first. November started with a draw before they fell 2-1 to eventual champion WPFC, who they tied 1-1 in October. WPFC and the Sounders both won out the remaining games on their schedules with Spokane allowing just two goals in their four-game win streak. Comfortably in front of the third place side, the B squad took care of business in their final two games in November with a win and a draw in celebrating a second place finish in Division 5.
Sounders G04-A / Sounders G04-B
The A squad were in the hunt for the U13 Division 2 title going into the final six weeks, but they fell 2-1 to Harbor Premier and after three consecutive wins the rest of November were upset 1-0 at Three Rivers in their December finale, finishing third and a point shy of Harbor Premier. The B squad was perfect through 10 games going into the final weeks in Division 4. They won the first game in November but dropped back-to-back one-goal decision against fellow unbeaten FWFC before winning their final game, finishing second and four points back of FWFC.
Winter HS Girls Kicks Off
The Spokane Sounders started off 2-2-2 in their opening weekend of play in the winter high school girls RCL leagues. The 98-A squad played to a 1-1 draw at Eastside FC in their U19 Division 1 opener. The 00-A girls split their opening weekend trip to the west side, falling 2-1 to Seattle United before rebounding with a 2-0 win against Eastside FC in Division 1 play. In the U16 Division 1 flight, the 01-A side posted a pair of shutouts on the west side with a scoreless draw against Seattle United in the opener and a 1-0 win against Eastside FC. In the lone home game, the 01-B girls fell 3-2 to Blackhills FC.
