It is setting up to be a great tournament season in the State and President's Cups. Going into the final week(s) of group play, things are looking good for quite a few teams. A handful have already advanced or are - in the case of the younger ages - in the knockout portions of their respective cup tournaments.
Currently In The Knockout Phase...
The young ladies kicked things off at the end of March with a 1-0 win on the road against GS Surf before falling the next day at Bellevue United, 2-1. They returned home and played PacNW to a 1-1 draw on April Fool's Day and picked up a 3-0 win against RVS the following week, earning a wildcard berth to the Quarterfinals. They play at Washington Rush Saturday in the U13 Division 2 President's Cup quarters.
The young lads travel to Three Rivers Saturday for a quarterfinal showdown in the U13 State Cup after finishing unbeaten in group play. They started things off with a 1-1 draw at PacNW mid-March and finished the month with a 1-0 win against visiting Seattle United. They opened April with a 1-1 home draw against GS Surf, advancing as the second-place side in the group.
The boys started things off with a 3-0 victory via Washington Rush on April Fool's Day and over the next two weeks did just enough to advance to the Quarterfinals as the second-place team in their group. They tied Eastside 1-1 and fell 2-1 to Whatcom. They visit WPFC this Saturday in the U13 Division 2 President's Cup quarters.
Sounders B03 North-A / Sounders B03 Valley-A
The North side finished unbeaten and tied for first in their group. They opened things up in resounding fashion the final weekend of March with 7-2 and 6-0 wins at Eastside FC and Crossfire Premier. They returned home and played PacNW to a 2-2 draw the first of the month, advancing to the Round of 16 in the U12 Division 2 President's Cup. In the opening round, they played to a 1-1 road tie with WPFC, advancing to the quarterfinal 3-2 on penalties. They visit Eastside FC Saturday.
The Valley side, meanwhile, rebounded from a opening game loss, 4-1 against visiting Eastside mid-March, with a pair of bit road wins to finish second in their group and advance to the Round of 16 in the U12 Division 2 President's Cup. They posted 4-1 and 7-1 wins the final weekend of March at Three Rivers and FWFC White. On April 8 they mirrored the North side with a penalty shootout win as well, taking the tiebreaker 4-1 after a 2-2 draw against FWFC Blue. They visit Harbor View Saturday in the quarters.
Wrapping Up Group Play...
The young ladies head into the final game of group play this weekend with a 2-0-0 mark in the U19/20 State Cup tournament. They posted a 2-0 victory at WPFC on April 2 and then blasted visiting Crossfire Premier 10-1 the following week.
The team takes to the pitch in the U18 State Cup tournament for the first time this weekend with games against GS Surf and Crossfire Premier and finish things out next week with their third group match at Washington Rush.
Two road games in the U17 State Cup await the young ladies this weekend after having opened up group play with a 4-3 win against Eastside FC on April 8. They face Whatcom and PacNW.
Sounders G00-B / Sounders G00-C
The B squad heads into its final U17 Division 1 President's Cup group game versus visiting Eastside Saturday after opening things up with a pair of road wins, 3-2 and 1-0, at PacNW and Blackhills the previous two weeks, respectively. The C squad, playing in a larger group in the U17 Division 2 President's Cup, opened things up with a 2-0 loss at home to Seattle United, but have rebounded nicely with 4-2 and 2-1 wins against Kent United and Lake Hills the past two weeks, respectively. They host GS Surf Sunday.
Advancement is a certainty for the young ladies in the U16 State Cup. They have literally been perfect through three games with three shutout wins. They kicked things off the opening weekend of April with 6-0 and 3-0 wins at WPFC and Whatcom. The following week they blanked visiting Crossfire Premier 2-0. The host Eastside FC the final day of the month.
Sounders G01-B / Sounders G01-C
Things are still up in the air for both sides. The B team is unbeaten halfway through group play in the U16 Division 1 President's Cup. They played Eastside FC to a 1-1 draw on the road on April 1 and earned a 2-1 road win the following week at Seattle United. They play twice on Saturday, hosting Kitsap Alliance and Northwest United. The C squad dropped its opener in the U16 Division 2 President's Cup the first of the month, but rebounded for a 2-0 win at Kent United the next day. They host Pacific FC Saturday and Seattle United Sunday.
The young ladies are home for two this weekend to wrap up group play in the U15 State Cup. They already have a 4-0 win against Pacific FC on the ledger from April 1. They host GS Surf Saturday and Crossfire Premier Sunday.
The young ladies are looking to rebound with a tough two-game task this weekend after dropping a narrow 2-1 decision against Rush Select last weekend. They visit Newport SC in the U15 Division 2 President's Cup Saturday and return home to host Eastside FC Sunday.
Sounders G03-A / Sounders G03-B
The A squad is unbeaten through three group games in the U14 Division 1 President's Cup heading into their final game at Snohomish United Saturday. They are perfect defensively with three shutouts on the ledger, starting things off with a 4-0 win on the road April 1 against Harbor Premier. The following week they battled visiting Seattle United to a scoreless stalemate and blasted Blackhills 6-0. The U14 Division 2 President's Cup experience, though, has come to an end for the B squad despite a good performance. They played to a scoreless draw at PacNW at the end of March to start things off and then drubbed visiting NorthWest United two weeks later. A 2-0 loss at GS Surf last week, however, kept them from reaching the quarterfinals.
Tight contests in the U13 State Cup have not finished in favor of the young ladies thus far. The final weekend of March saw them fall 2-1 at Seattle United and earn a 1-1 draw at GS Surf. The following week, they dropped a narrow 1-0 decision at home against PacNW. They host Eastside in their final game Sunday.
Sounders B03-A / Sounders B03-B
Both sides were unable to advance in their respective President's Cup tournaments. The A squad came up short against FWC, Washington Timbers and GS Surf in the U14 Division 1 tournament. The B squad was able to pick up a win against Crossfire Premier in their second outing in group play, but it was not enough as losses to Bainbridge Island and Seattle United left them short on points in the U14 Division 2 tournament.
