The Spokane Sounders raised one cup last weekend at Starfire and have a chance at three more this week as the State Cup championships come to a close for the girls high school age groups.
After winning their all-Spokane semifinal against the North, the B05A Valley side claimed the Division 2 U12 President's Cup championship last Sunday. The G03A girls also reached the final in the D1 U14 President's Cup, but came up against nemesis WPFC once again and settled for a runners-up finish.
This week, the G98A ladies take to the field for a final time - though several will join the Shadow First Team this summer - to represent the club as they look to claim the U19/20 State Cup title. Joining them in the State Cup Final Four are the G01A ladies in the U16 tournament and the G02A girls in the U15 bracket.
Last Week's Final Four action at Starfire...
Sounders B05A North / Sounders B05A Valley -- President's Cup Division 2
In the all Spokane Sounders semifinal Saturday, the Valley boys came away with a big 5-1 victory over the North to reach the championship game Sunday against PacNW. Elijah Reeves scored three and Zac Olson provided the other two. In the Final, the Sounders won a 3-2 thriller to claim the D2 President's Cup championship. Sounders G03A -- U14 President's Cup Division 1
The Sounders ladies rolled to a 4-1 victory in the semifinals against Eastside FC Saturday, setting up a championship match against WPFC, who advanced by the same scoreline against Harbor Premier. Looking for their first win against WPFC after a draw and a loss in RCL play last fall and a loss in the winter league, they were unable to break through and get that elusive victory, falling 2-0 in the President's Cup Final.
Sounders B04A -- U13 State Cup
In an eastern Washington showdown, the Spokane lads came up short in the semifinals Saturday against Crossfire Yakima, who went on to claim the championship with a 4-0 win Sunday against NorthWest United.
This Week's Final Four action at Starfire...
Sounders G98A -- U19/20 State Cup
The young ladies cruised to a 6-1 quarterfinal win at home against FWFC Sunday afternoon to advance to the Final Four. They will meet PacNW in the semifinal with Eastside FC and Washington Rush in the other semi. PacNW, and Eastside FC, also swept their groups to reach the quarterfinals, but PacNW escaped a thriller in the opening round against Three Rivers with a 3-2 victory. In RCL play this winter, the Sounders won 2-0 on the road against PacNW in late January at Starfire en route to a third-place finish behind second-place Eastside FC. PacNW finished sixth and Washington Rush eighth. Spokane tied Eastside FC 1-1 in mid-December and blanked Washington Rush 3-0, both away from home. The semifinal is set for 1:00 Saturday with the championship at 11:45 Sunday.
Sounders G02A -- U15 State Cup
After suffering a loss in their final group game put them on the road for the quarterfinals, the young ladies bounced back with a 3-1 victory away from home against Blackhills FC to reach the Final Four. They face PacNW at 1:00 Saturday with Crossfire Premier and Eastside FC in the other semi. The Sounders posted a 1-0 home win and a 1-1 road draw against PacNW this winter to win the RCL championship via tiebreaker after finishing even on points with PacNW, who will no doubt be looking to avenge matters. Eastside and Crossfire finished fifth and seventh, respectively. Spokane split against Eastside in a pair of 2-1 contests and swept Crossfire 1-0 and 3-1. The championship game is scheduled for 1:30 Sunday.
Sounders G01A -- U16 State Cup
After a three-week break, the young ladies picked up right where they left off with a fourth consecutive shutout in a 4-0 win against visiting Eastside FC to finish perfect for their four group games. They face GS Surf in the semifinal at 3:30 Saturday with Eastside and PacNW squaring off in the other semi. The Sounders ladies were unbeaten at 11-0-3 this past winter, edging PacNW for the title by two points while Eastside finished third. They have not recently played GS Surf, which were the D2 champions over the winter with a record of 11-1-2. In RCL, though, they swept Eastside and PacNW with 1-0 and 2-0 wins, respectively, on the road in mid-December and then registered 3-1 and 2-1 wins in March at home, respectively.
