FINAL CUP UPDATE - Three reach Final; G01-A Sounders claim State Cup title

The Spokane Sounders had an excellent weekend at the Starfire Complex in Tukwila on the final weekend of the State and President's Cup tournaments. Three of the club's high school girls sides advanced to the Final Four and extended their runs to the State Cup Championship games on Sunday with the G01-A ladies capturing the U16 State Cup title.

Sounders G01A -- U16 State Cup
In a dramatic semifinal contest, the Sounders ladies found themselves trailing in the second half before Marissa Bankey converted a penalty that ultimately sent the match to overtime, where Sarah Frahm tallied unassisted with about two minutes remaining to send them through to the Finals with a 2-1 extra time victory against GS Surf.

Chelsea Le gave the Sounders the advantage early in the championship against PacNW, putting away a free kick from the top of the box eight minutes into the contest. In the second half Olivia DeShazo and Kailyn Labrosse combined to set up Camryn Gardner for what proved to be the game-winner and Le fed Kylee Maldanado for some insurance as the Sounders captured the crown with a 3-1 victory.

AJ Crooks, after not allowing a goal in four group games, only allowed one goal in each of the two games in goal.

Sounders G02A -- U15 State Cup
The ladies advanced from the semifinal with a 2-1 victory against PacNW Saturday. Maddie Lasher and Peyton Bastine scored in the win with Katie Harvey and Margo Schoessler making things tough for the Pac defense. Goalkeeper Jose Krum was stingy in defense in combination with centerbacks Dori Ames and Gracyn Ulias. In the championship game, Schoessler and Lasher scored for the Sounders against Eastside FC in a match that went the distance before they came up short, 4-2, in a penalty kick tiebreaker after the 2-2 draw.

Sounders G98A -- U19/20 State Cup
The ladies kicked off the final event of their youth careers with a 1-0 semifinal victory in overtime with Claire Neder scoring from outside the box. Powerhouse and former national champion Eastside FC, however, claimed the title in the championship with a 4-1 result with Julia Adair scoring a fantastic goal from distance. Zoe Boleneus was in goal for the Sounders for the shutout. Though they may be done with club ball, several girls will continue on this summer as part of the Shadow Women's First Team pool along with a few other high school age standouts.

Washington Cup - GU13 Silver Division
Congratulations also go out to the G04 Shadow United squad that won the Washington Cup U13 Silver bracket. They went 2-0-1 in group play with a 1-1 draw against Washington East in the opener before downing Spokane Breakers 3-0 in the second match of the firs day. On Sunday they rolled past Endeavour with a 4-1 win and then edged Cascade FC 2-1 in the semifinals. In the championship match, they doubled up on Seattle Celtic with a 4-2 victory.
