Shadow host Seattle Stars in EPLWA home opener Saturday

Spokane Shadow News Release - Friday, May 8, 2015

After kicking off the 2015 Evergreen Premier League season in convincing fashion in Wenatchee last weekend, the Spokane Shadow are returning to Spokane Falls CC Stadium Saturday night to continue the defense of their league championship. The Shadow play host to the Seattle Stars at 7:00 pm with family-friendly tailgating commencing at 5:00.

In last Sunday’s season opener, Spokane saw a bit of a shaky start with the hosts getting an early goal just two minutes into the contest, but the speed and athleticism of the Shadow rallied to take a two-goal lead and were up 3-2 at the break against Wenatchee.

After solving some early season miscommunication, the squad looked unstoppable in the second half as they scored five unanswered en route to an 8-2 victory. Returning Shadow standouts Sam Engle and Adam Talley both struck twice and the hosts added two more to the ledger for the Shadow with own goals. First-year Shadow defenders Brady Ulen and Nick Ulowetz also found the back of the net for the Shadow.

About the Opposition: Seattle Stars

Last year the Shadow easily took care of business against the Stars, posting a 4-1 victory on the road the first week of June with two from Nick Hamer and one each from Mike Ramos and Pete Peterson. On the final weekend of the season, the Shadow dominated a short-handed visiting Stars 11-0 on Saturday before claiming the title the following day in the season finale against Wenatchee.

So far this season, the Stars are 1-1-0. They won their opening contest 2-1 against Wenatchee FC with first half goals from Cornelius Ieremie and Neiman Allessandro. Last week they fell 3-2 to South Sound FC, runners-up in EPLWA to the Shadow by one point last year. The Stars took the initial lead through Anderson Dias in the 35th minute but gave up three consecutive to the Shock before Alexis Madari pulled it close with a penalty in the 77th.

Home Game – Saturday, May 16 vs Vancouver Victory

The Shadow will remain at home for the second consecutive week, playing host to Vancouver Victory, who is currently 2-0-0 in the league. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm at Spokane Falls CC Stadium.
