Four Spokane Shadow players and head coach Mike Pellicio were honored Friday as 2018 NPSL Conference XI selections for the Northwest.
Bryan Hernandez, Spencer Wolfe, Tanner Williams and Mike Ramos were each recognized for their contributions in the unbeaten 7-0-5 season and regular season Northwest Conference championship. It was the first time in the history of the club, founded in 1995, the Men's First Team finished a season unbeaten. The selections were chosen in a public vote on NPSL.com following the regular season.
The lone goalkeeper honored, Bryan Hernandez finished the season with 10 starts in 12 games, recording four shutouts and completing the campaign with a 1.00 goals-against average. He also tallied an assist this season. Hernandez, heading into his senior season at Humboldt University this fall, was in his second season with the club, playing nine games a year ago with a 1.33 GAA and two shutouts.
Selected at defender, Spencer Wolfe helped lead a fantastic defensive effort that saw the Shadow allow just six goals in 10 games after their season-opening road trip that saw them allow six in two games. The team captain started all nine regular season games in which he appeared, playing the full 90 in each. He also finished with one assist. The Whitworth product is a long-time member of the team since 2015, playing in eight NPSL games last season.
Tanner Williams, midfielder, and Mike Ramos, forward, were continual creative forces in the attack for the Shadow as the team scored 33 goals in 12 regular season games. Williams finished the campaign with four goals and five assists in 10 games, adding another helper in the playoff game. Ramos, meanwhile, had six goals and six assists this season as he played in nine regular season matches.
Both products of the area and former players in the youth club, the duo returned to Spokane after playing professionally abroad. Williams (Sandpoint HS) played in Latvia over the offseason before joining the Shadow for his first season with the team. Ramos (University HS), an original member of the Evergreen Premier League debut champions in 2014, returned to the team after his most recent professional stop with Puerto Rico FC, where he also became a member of the Puerto Rico National Team.
Guiding the team, Mike Pellicio was recognized as the Northwest Conference XI Coach after his first season in charge of the team. Pellicio was named to the post less than two months before the season, but made the most of a smooth transition from fellow club coach Cameron Bushey, who departed for a local college position. The San Diego native and Santa Clara product has been with the club since 2015, joining the Shadow from nearby Sandpoint Strikers. He also serves as a coach in the Olympic Development Program with Region IV and Idaho ODP.
